Wagstaff Worldwide Public Relations Named SBA’s Los Angeles District Women in Business Champion of the Year

May 1, 2015 Los Angeles, CA Bay Area Development Company announces that its client, Wagstaff Worldwide Public Relations, has been named the 2015 Women in Business Champion for the SBA’s Los Angeles District, which covers Los Angeles, Ventura and Santa Barbara counties.

Mary Wagstaff began her public relations career in Chicago in 1990. She quickly created a niche for herself by focusing on clients in the hospitality industry; chefs, wineries, restaurants, travel destinations, even specialty foods companies. In 1998 she moved to Los Angeles and in 1999 she opened the doors of Wagstaff Worldwide Public Relations. What started as a company of one (two if you count Mary’s dog) has grown to an enterprise with over 100 employees and offices in Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, San Francisco and Aspen. Wagstaff, who opened a division dedicated to culinary celebrities in 2011, serves over 100 clients worldwide, including household names such as Anchor Distilling Company, Cocktail Kingdom, Jet Tila, Pebble Beach Food & Wine and City Markets of Los Angeles.

Wagstaff has maintained two leased offices in Los Angeles for quite some time. Her goal was to consolidate locations in order to streamline business operations and reduce her company’s overhead. Working with Andrew Mort of City National Bank and Rodney Kojima, Senior Vice President at Bay Area Development, she was able to secure SBA 504 funding to purchase and renovate a 7,400 square foot building in the heart of Los Angeles. The new space gives Wagstaff the room she needs to grow her company and she estimates that 15 new jobs will be created, allowing her to expand her client base and continue delivering the high touch service and highly visible results for which she is known.

“Mary is proof that if you have a great idea, flawless execution and a tireless work ethic, you can build a truly great company,” according to Rodney Kojima of Bay Area Development Company, Wagstaff’s SBA 504 lender. “She has created a company that works with the best of the best and delivers the best of the best. Along the way, she is creating jobs in her community and undoubtedly paving the way for future women entrepreneurs. We are thrilled to have helped Mary grow her company and are so pleased she has been given this well-deserved award.”
